4th of July | Patriotic Style

Warning: If you aren't keen on dressing up for holidays, color coordinating, or mother-daughter matching outfits in general... then this post isn't for you. You've been warned.

We spent last weekend in Lake Powell (vacation post to come soon) and had a great time. Unfortunately, no sooner did we arrive home than baby girl came down with a nasty cough. This was Monday. With the 4th of July on the horizon, I was terrified that she would be sick for the big day. Terrified might sound a little over the top, but it isn't an exaggeration. The 4th of July has always been one of my favorite holidays. It's the Christmas of summer time. I love the parades, the barbecues, swimming, carnivals, dressing up in patriotic attire... and, of course, fireworks. I love celebrating this country that I live in, the freedoms I enjoy, and the people who have fought so diligently to protect them. Last year Klair was too young to truly enjoy the beauty that is July 4th. This year was bound to be more fun... until she came down with a summer bug.

It seems so unfair that anyone should get sick during the summer. But a baby? The worst. Luckily, Klair has been a champ at nap/bed times. Albeit we've had to lie down with her a lot (and I've spent multiple afternoon with her asleep in my arms for 3+ hours), but she's been able to sleep her way through most of it. Now, with one day left, I have high hopes that in fact we will be able to enjoy the holiday after all. She has a bit of a lingering cough that manifests itself a little before bed, but it's nothing like it was. Plus she is happy, energetic, and has her appetite back. Fireworks, here we come!

I think the style of this post is pretty self-explanatory. We were feeling festive.

What do you think about dressing up on holidays? I think I will do it until I die.
